The e-commerce is booming across the globe and especially in the Gulf countries, which has led Dubai to take another initiative; Dubai has finally completed the first phase of a new free zone that is dedicated to e-commerce.
The facility includes 470,000 square feet of real estate and is said to be one of the biggest free zones catering to the e-commerce industry across the globe.
The Dubai CommerCity project is currently valued at 3.2 billion dirhams ($871 million) and contains roughly 145,000 square feet of e-commerce logistic units and warehouses. DHL and Hellmann Worldwide Logistics are said to be managing and providing logistical support.
Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, chairman of the Dubai Airport Freezone Authority, said:
The launch of Dubai CommerCity aims to lead the future of e-commerce business in the region. The project has been thoroughly studied not only to provide foundational solutions, but also to stimulate and support business and prosperity at a time when the sector is going through peak growth.
Dubai CommerCity is the first and leading e-commerce free zone in the MENA region and this decision will further their reputation as the only free zone which is the leading hub for e-commerce. The free zone has positioned itself perfectly to benefit from the growing e-commerce industry in the region that is outperforming the global growth average, according to experts.
