As the world progresses towards a more digital future, it has paved way for new methods through which financial crimes are possible.
In order to combat with such scams, we have compiled a list of all the options you have depending on where the financial scam occurred.
Since UAE is a financial hub, there are several regulatory authorities which are put in place to curb the financial crimes to protect the investors and the public.
1) Central Bank
If you have been a victim of a financial crime then the first place you need to look to report the wrongdoings is at Central Bank of the UAE. It is the regulator of banks and other financial institutions across the country, excluding the DIFC.
The complaint can be registered at www.centralbank.ae/en/form/complaints or you can call 800 CBUAE – 800 (22823).
2) Securities and Commodities Authority
The Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA) is the regulator for all the securities and commodities within the UAE, excluding the DIFC. This is one of the reasons why seeking help from them can be hugely beneficial in this regard.
In order to form the complaint, you can either visit their website www.sca.ae or call 800 SCAUAE (722823).
3) Dubai Financial Services Authority
The Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) is an independent regulator of financial and ancillary services conducted in or from the DIFC. As you can see, this is the only authority that has the ability to conduct investigation when DIFC is involved unlike the aforementioned authorities.
You can lodge the complain from here: dfsa.ae/consumer/consumer#complaints.
4) The Supreme Audit Institution
The Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) has the supreme audit authority within the UAE and is an independent body. Furthermore, SAI is also attached to the Federal National Council. The SAI not only audits the federal government entities but also mandates fighting fraud and corruption.
To register a complaint with them, visit saiuae.gov.ae/en/pages/report-fraud.apx or call 02-635-9999.
5) eCrime Website
The only requirement to register a complain on this portal is that the crime must have happened within the geographical scope of Dubai city. The complain can be registered at www.ecrime.ae.
6) Dubai Police
Sometimes, the good old police work can also come in handy if you have been wronged. You can contact Dubai police through their app called Dubai Police or you can call 901 for further inquiries into the matter and be put through the related authority. The financial crimes can be reported at the nearest police station, too.
7) Abu Dhabi Police
The Abu Dhabi police can be contacted through their call centre on 800-3333 or you can email your queries at contactus@adpolice.gov.ae.
8) Sharjah Police
Similar to the other two police departments mentioned above, the financial crimes can be reported at https://www.shjpolice.gov.ae/eservices/eserviceslist/eservice?serviceid=2. Otherwise you can also visit the nearest police station.
