Dubai is known as a tax haven as all the businesses and services are virtually tax and duty free. But that doesn’t mean that you will not be charged for anything in Dubai. There are several other charges that are nuisance for people residing in UAE and one among them is the car parking fee. Car owners have to pay AED 2 for 30 minutes of car parking in commercial zones. This and several other issues are forcing the public to choose online taxi cars. Uber and Careem are two main car services and they are now part of life for most of the Emirati and expat population in UAE. But a recently launched online car service is providing complete freedom from this car parking fee.
In the recent year, the list of car app services has increased with the introduction of rental car apps ‘ekar’ and ‘Udrive’ in UAE. Both these companies provide similar kind of services where the user will pay per minute (or per hour) after renting a car. In fact, both these companies have registered themselves from RTA Dubai earlier but these cars started their operations in the start of current year in January 2017 due to issues regarding regulations.
According to the rules and regulations related to their affiliation with RTA Dubai, both these car companies are allowed to operate 100 cars each for their customers. These customers will be allowed to rent their favorite car for maximum 6 hours. Fare of ekar is from AED 24 to AED 30 per hour while Udrive charges on per minute basis from 40 to 50 fils per minute. Both these car services are allowed to operate in 45 locations that also include five important locations in Dubai Metro.
An important advantage for these car rental services is that their fare also includes parking fee if you park your car in any commercial, non-commercial areas and metro stations (but customers are not allowed to park these cars in specific areas like Dubai Internet City, Dubai Media City etc.). These cars are also registered with petrol stations which make it easier for you to refuel your car if required. You will not be charged for the time you spend on petrol station. There is a VIP sticker at the petrol tank of these cars that will enable you to fill your petrol tank by any ENOC or EPPOC station for free.
You can become member of any of these car rental services by downloading smart apps of these companies. Initially, you will pay AED 20 monthly membership fee. You will have to upload your Emirates ID and driver’s license for registration.
The emergence of these new car rental services and the popularity of already present online car services like Careem and Uber illustrate the potential of online car business in UAE.
